What is the Thermage procedure?
Thermage is a non-invasive treatment that uses a device to deliver radiofrequency (RF) energy into the deeper layers of skin, which causes a heating action that immediately tightens skin tissue and structures. The Thermage® procedure reduces the signs of aging skin, giving you a more youthful appearance.
How does it work?
The top layers of your skin are protected with a cooling spray while radio-frequency energy heats the collagen in the lower layers. This heating action causes deep structures of your skin to tighten immediately. Over time, new collagen grows to further tighten your skin and produce a more youthful appearance.
What does the Thermage® procedure feel like?
With each touch of the Thermage® treatment tip, you will experience a brief intense heating sensation as the collagen in deep layers of your skin is tightened. To protect your skin and the make the treatment more comfortable, a cooling spray is delivered before, during, and after each application of the treatment tip. Additionally, as part of pretreatment, an anesthetic cream is usually applied to further enhance your comfort.
How long does it take?
The Thermage® procedure can take anywhere from a few minutes to an hour, depending on the size of the area you are having treated. Additional time may be required for skin preparation prior to the procedure.
When will I see results?
In most patients, results appear gradually in two to six months, although some patients see an earlier response.
How long will the effects of the Thermage procedure last?
Recently published studies show that improvements continue for at least six months after a single treatment session. Other studies show that thermal collagen changes can last several years, depending on the rate of the aging process.
How many treatments will I need?
A single treatment has produced good results in a significant number of patients. However, your doctor will assess the number and frequency of treatments required to achieve optimal results for your skin.
How long before I can return to my normal activities?
Most people return to their regular activities immediately following the Thermage® procedure. Some people experience mild redness (like a sunburn), but it usually disappears quickly. There is no special care needed after treatment, but sun screen is recommended as a part of good skin care.
Is it safe?
The Thermage® procedure is very safe. Although it is possible that skin damage can occur, this advanced treatment has been studied carefully in hundreds of patients with minimal reports of lasting adverse events.
Although Thermage has been touted as a “non-surgical face lift”, it is not a substitute for a facelift. Thermage is able to provide some of the improvements that cosmetic facial surgery gives to people but in a portion of people no improvements will be seen after Thermage. Thermage is best performed during the early signs of aging such as:
1.early jowling
2.loosening skin ( face and Body )
3.wrinkling around the mouth
People with very loose skin, sagging jowls and a turkey gobbler may see little improvement after Thermage are better suited for cosmetic surgery. If surgery is not an option, then Thermage may provide some improvements but expectations need to be managed.
Thermage works well on people with all skin types.
