Lasers and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light, wavelength-tunable) apply pulses of light to the area to be removed so that the heat energy selectively destroys unwanted pigment or ink without significantly damaging or scarring the surrounding skin tissue.

The particular laser chosen, or the tuning of the IPL equipment, depends upon the nature of the skin feature to be removed as well as your racial skin type. Dr. Sett has a wide range of equipment in order to optimise your treatment.


For example, tattoos are created using multiple inks, each of which absorb different wavelengths, and require multiple treatments. Amateur tattoos typically require 4 to 6 treatments, whereas professional tattoos may require 6 to 10 visits.

Most of the common pigmented lesions can be removed in one treatment.

Generally, deeper skin features are treated using longer wavelength light which penetrates into the blemish, and may require more treatments to avoid unnecessary discomfort, allowing the body to clear away the destroyed offending material, after which the remaining blemish can be treated. Some kinds of birthmarks and blemishes may naturally return after months or years, whereby they may be treated again with similar results.
